Bars in Los Angeles

I am off to LA (staying on Melrose Ave at Fairfax) in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone could suggest any nice bars & restaurants (for dinner and breakfast) in and around the area. Don't mind going as far as Beverly Hills, Santa Monica etc. It would also be quite cool to bump into someone famous!!

We enjoyed the cat and fiddle, on sunset between highland and N cahuenga. It's a Biritish theme bar (which in itself is hilarious, as the American's don't quite get it) but don't let that put you off as it has a great vibe and is rumoured to be a good place to see celebs.
