on the roadworks on the m6 jn 12-13 there are markers at 3 mile, 2 mile, 1 mile and 800yds, as well as an advance warning of 40mph & average speed cameras. Perhaps I don't understand the question?
You're not sad stanmore - but I tell you what bugs me - when you are held up in roadworks on a Sat/Sun and there is no-one working on them. I often think that if it were America - they'd have had people working around the clock to get it finished to as not to inconvenience the motorist, but here - no chance.

You are not sad, here is a web site dedicated to britains motorways and roads in general.

The 3/4 mile signs are to the reduced speed limit. This distance is used, because no other standard sign layout for a roadworks system as depicted in the Specification for Highway Works, has a sign at that distance from the works. The are at multiples of miles, 800yds,600yds,400yds,200yds (and on smaller roads)100yds.

I knew working on roadworks for 20 odd years would come in handy some time!!
