I agree Nottingham (like any other major city) has its spoils of prats but don,t believe the hype mate its a cracking night out !!!
Depending on what style of music you go for if its rock (ewww) then go to rock city 5 mins walk from market square
Or club music try Media which is also 2/3 mins walk towards rock city ....
There are loads of mainstream clubs just ask around ....
I,d raccommend you have a drink in Hockley which again is 5/7 mins from the market square ... Just jump in a cab it,ll cost 2 or 3 pound tops !!!
Have a great time ... remember its 4 women to 1 man :)
Alternatively you could go down the A52 to the hole namely Derby hehehehe

...don't believe all you read about Nottingham. Its a brilliant city but a bit of a mess in the centre at the moment as they are doing up the Old Market Square. Unfortunately I have 30 years on you so its no good me recommending anywhere for you to go (but we had a great time in our teens!) I know that Rock City is good...and Media - but they wouldn't let me in there now - they are a bit picky! There is a Hoilday Inn Express bang in the City Centre - I stayed in one at Liverpool a couple of years ago and it was excellent...have a great night - and if all else fails there are a couple of Wetherspoons in the Centre!
There is trouble in most major towns and cities in the UK every Saturday night so don't be put off! I have been to Nottingham several times and have had really good fun..There's a good Slug and Lettuce, Pitcher and Piano, Reflex is a laugh, Bar Schnapps (Not sure if this is still here) is fun too...The last time i went we went to Oceania the club, which is massive and has loads of different rooms of music. There are plenty of hotels as well around the centre of town and the shops are great too..You will have a good weekend defo! x
I haven't been for a couple of years, but used to live there and loved it.
The bars in Hockley are your average trendy town bar, and as such quite pricey and some charge entrance at weekends, but they're very popular. The ones on market square, and on the roads leading from it tend to be good too.
Media is a good club, but i'd recommend renaissance (if it's still there on sat night in ?Queens st?) or the bomb, and i'm sure they'll be open late enough for you not to need a hotel. They both used to be open til about 4 before the new licensing laws came in.
One other thing.
Nottingham is a BIG university city. So, during term time, town centre is crawling with students, and out of term time it is a lot quieter. Time your visit to either catch the students or avoid them depending on your preference.
PS. It's a bit of an urban myth about the whole 4-1 bit :-(
