We found it a pain to try to and do a cash exchange there so a card for ATM and I think from trawlling here the Nationwide have the best card deals check search the site under topic lists on left to confirm!

You will need some dollars to start off with, don't travel without any. If you're going to Las Vegas you'll probably have to change flights somewhere in the US which will mean if you want to eat or drink anything in the airport you'll need dollars, also getting from the airport to your hotel will involve spending dollars. Someone told me that M&S are doing a really good deal on dollars on the moment, though I haven't checked it out myself.
