safety in Acapulco

Hi I'm going to Acapulco next January and I've been told it's not too safe because of ongoing drug wars, in fact I've just been told theres been more beheadings in Acapulco this month than in Iraq. Has anyone been there? and whats been your experience?

I returned from a holiday to Mexico a month ago and experienced no difficulty, though I didn't go to Acapulco - further up the Pacific coast and to Mexico City. Parts of any large city in Mexico or anywhere around the world have places one doesn't go to - we certainly discovered that in Mexico City.
