This is a long shot but does anyone know the quickest way to get to Montauk from Manhattan on public transport?

If the Long Island Rail Road as good as the one to Toronto from Penn Station, I would not recommend it. We took that one last week and it took us 14 hrs to do arround 400 miles. The equivelant of London to Edinburgh (5hrs). I would try the bus (don't know what they are like but can't be worse than the train)
