'safe' travel destinations
i dont watch much news or read any papers so am a little ignorant about the ins and outs of the middle east crisis. i desparately want to book a last minute holiday (not long haul) in the sun in mid sept. where would be reasonably safe, and where would be best to avoid?

It details the risks of each country, including terrorist threats, natural threats etc.
There is also an Australian and US equivalent which is pretty useful.
A quick note, that since these websites didn't put adequate warnings of major events (particularly terrorist events) they now seem to err on the side of caution. However, they are still useful if you want to get an overview of the potential risks.

Personally I would steer clear of the middle east completely !.
Places that have had terrorist activity recently include Jordan (yesterday), Egypt (few weeks ago) and of course Israel is probably best avoided at the moment.
Iraq and Afganistan are probably out as well, although I am not sure they were top holiday destinations anyway.
