Can anyone tell me the best way to travel from Heathrow Airport to Waterloo Station? I'm thinking tube/taxi/bus etc. What's cheapest/quickest/most stress-free for someone with luggage?

Oh ******... I meant Waterloo, not Gatwick!
obviously easiest for someone with loads of luggage is a taxi - but expect it to cost 45-50, with an indeterminate journey time due to the uncertainties of the traffic - but it can be done in around an hour.
a single tube fare is 4-00, and the journey can be achieved with 1 change at Piccadilly Circus, but carrying mountains of luggage on escalators is not for the faint-hearted.
Express bus 412/500 will take you to Victoria where you can get a 211 bus to Waterloo, bus fare 1-50, coach fare 10-00

actually, there are so many permutations, probably easiest to go to http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRI P_REQUEST2 and play around with the travel mode selection to get what you want.......
ah - that link didn't work. So go to http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRI P_REQUEST2?language=en and click on "more options" to see the travel modes
Another way that avoids central London is to get the bus from the Central Bus Station to Feltham and then get a normal train to Waterloo. An hour or a little more in total. The interchange at Feltham is easy, particularly in the London direction.

I think it's the 144 but can't remember for certain. It is an airport bus so has a bit more luggage space than most.

1.50 for the bus and 4.70 for the train
Since most trains from Waterloo go thru Woking, have you considered the Rail Air Bus to Woking and then change to the relevant train?
