We are looking at property in this area - any feedback?
plus we are finding difficult to find a tour operator / good hotel to go for an 'unsupervised' visit.
Any help would be appreciated

Just to the north of Mojacar on the flat spit of land are a series of resort hotels - you could try there. Some of them are timeshare - you could try renting off an owner (some villas are outright owned). We stayed here 4 years ago http://www.verabeachclub.co.uk/ but there are others. Only other comment - check out how they propose to solve the water problem in this area - this is the driest part of Europe and is semi-desert. Some mighty costly infrastructure is going to be required to support the scale of development there (IMHO).
