as most of you no im trying to book a holiday for me and my bf under the circumstances of no aeroplane and no ferry !! unless i conquer my fear of the sea!!!
my Q how long does it take to get to spain via ferry!??
is there any holiday resorts in france that will be like a holiday in spain etc!! i.e swimming pools, bars etc?
i no france is not a beachy holiday but im trying my best to work summit out!! damn boyfriend!!!!!
Ferry to Spain is up to 36 hours. It's quicker to cross the channel and drive. Even when you've done the ferry to Spain there's a long drive to the Costas and the sort of resort you are looking for.
you could take the cruise ferry to Bilbao from Portsmouth (I think) They do a cruise every week, with about 12 hrs shore time in Spain, but I'm sure there's some way of doing 1 way, then returning a week or so later.
Ok for North coast, but med coast is a long way away.
Depends what you want really. Spanish North coast is beautiful in places, though not as beachy and sunny as South.
They have lovely beaches in the South of France. Cann and ajoining resorts have sandy beaches. I think you will find plenty to do there too. Nice and Monte Carlo and not too far by train. We didn't go for the night life just happy sitting in nice restaurants or round the pool of the villa we rented. I love the South of France and would move there if I could afford to buy down there and keep something here. Good luck in your search for a holiday. I know how your bf feels, I hate flying and hubby is not too keen on boats. But we do fly and go on boats. We have to our daughter lives in Vancouver, Canada and our son's wife is Turkish so we are expected to visit her parents in Istanbul from time to time. Its a hard life I have. :-)
the South of France has lots of beaches though not so many resort towns like Spain; think St Tropez. However, Cap d'Agde is good: http://www.capdagde.com/en/
You should be able to get to that part of the world by train (Eurostar and change in Paris) - buenchico can doubtless find a timetable if he sees this Q!
Plymouth to Santander is a little over 20 hours; then Spain is quite a big country, and you've got a long drive ahead of you to reach the south coast. Unless you've got a lot of time available, then there isn't really any realistic alternative to flying. Train will be fastest, but still a couple of days to southern Spain - it's quite a long way!
We've got a great apartment just outside of Cannes with its own Pool and the beach just 100yards away:
www.theoule-apartment.com. 8 restaurants nearby, beach - it's a great place and might be just what your looking for. the train links are the best option that others have mentioned, but hire a car and explore the area.
