Please could somebody tell me approx how far & how long it takes to drive from Nerja in Spain to Gibraltar? I am going there this Summer & would like to know what journey to expect, Gibraltar doesn't seem to be on any route planners!!

There are several combinations of roads available, including (toll) motorways and I don't think you can cover the entire (or nearly so) distance by motorway. The coast road is very attractive in parts but quite congested until you have got well past Malaga, and then you may encounter delays (sometimes severe) crossing between Spain and Gibraltar (we took well over an hour to exit back into Spain - be certain to have all vehicle papers as well as passports for examination, better not have any luggage to speak of so you have no unnecessary problems). Conditions change and I suggest you allow generous time. Worth the journey though - enjoy.
It takes approx 2 and a half hours from Nerja (other side of Malaga) if you use the new toll road (opened in 2003) I think we used about three or four toll roads and the cost was about 15 euros in total each way. The best thing to do is park outside Gibraltar in La Linea as the traffic queues to get in are horrendous. There are lots of spaces to park outside but make sure you are not late back as the traffic wardens hang about to catch you out. You get over the border much quicker when you walk and you can catch a bus once through the border to Main Street (only takes about 5 mins) although its an experience to walk across the runway. Hope you have a great time. Or maybe hope you HAD agreat time by the time you read this you may have already been.
