Can anyone advise if Braun Gas Cartridges (for straightners) are supposed to be carried in hand luggage or put in with checked in baggage when flying? many thanks

might be safer in the checked luggage, but you can chack with the airline.
Braun gas cartridges contain butane which is prohibited anywhere on board an aircraft. You'll have to buy your cartridges on arrival, or do without them.

Safety rules are the same for all airlines. Here are the relevant pages from the Ryanair website, which confirm that you can't take butane on board:

Within theory your not allowed to carry aerosol but everyone does, so stick it in your Suitcase and you will be fine.
