There are loads of cheap flights, including those operated by easyJet (who fly direct to Barcelona) and by Ryanair (who fly to Girona and Reus, both of which are linked by a direct coach service to Barcelona).
Barcelona is full of culture and history but it's also packed with great restaurants and bars. (Alcohol consumption is not compulsory!). Shopaholics are well catered for and there's a good, cheap, integrated public transport system which makes it really easy to get around.

Whhat about Almeria Ot's the most "Spanish" of the Andalucian capitals with lovely warm winter weather and the friendliest people in Spain.you could spend a day at Mini Hollywood where loads of the spaghetti westerns were filmed also home to a hands on mini zoo(My grown-up grand-daughter will never get over stroking a baby tiger) Other delights are excellent beaches good shopping plenty of nice reasonably priced restaurants easily reached typical Spanish villages etc.
