Hi, I am going to Cambodia, Thailand and Laos early next year. Can anyone recommend good, easy to read i.e. entertaining and not boring books about these places including their history etc. Thanks

Try the books by LonelyPlanet.
I usually get great travel books from my local library.

ENJOY!
Buy all books over there. Cambodia in particular and Lao to a lesser extent will sell photocopied books. These books are nearly perfect reproductions, and cost a lot less. What more you don't have to carry them out there.

You get a lot of books about the Khemer Rouge in Cambodia.

I couldn't possibly condone this sort of thing!!

I posted several recs last week for a poster who was off to Vietnam. Search it out if you like... they are the books I would strongly recommend

I'd particularly recommened The Lands of Charm and Cruelty for you. It gives insight, history, and is frequently hilarious, and/or exasperating!

The River of Time is a beautifully written story, a 'life journey' of a book, with an on the spot memoir of the Khmer Rouge.

Graham Greene is... well, one the best descriptive authors this world has ever known. The Quiet American is great (Our Man in Havana is probably my favourite book of all time!)

The Sorrow of War is not a light read, but is still a fascinating book. Think 'Birdsong' from the perscpective of a young VC cadre...

Have fun!
