I am arranging a weekend in Edinburgh for about 20 fellas as part of my duty as bestman at my friend's wedding. Any suggestions as to what to do?? Arriving Friday afternoon, staying in city centre, probably drinking on Friday - any particularly good places / places to avoid??? Saturday may be looking at some sort of activity in the locality (depending on hangovers), and then out again on the evening. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks

There is a Hard rock Cafe which does excellent food, if a little pricey.. can't remember the street but i'm sure if you look it up it'll come up on google.
Also there is an old converted church which has been turned into a pub called Frankensteins which is all gothic & very cool! on a night apparently at midnight a big frankenstein pops up!! Very good food there also.
Also this should come up on google.
i haven't been on one but apparently the ghost walks are good.
There is a big ice rink so there might be an ice hockey game on? You'd have to check on google again for that.

hope this is of some help.
You should go to the omni centre, its got a few bars, including a walkabout pub which is great. It aslo has a few places to eat as well, we used this place as our base for our stag weekend, its very handy.
I believe the pubs in Rose Street are turning away stag/hen groups, so best to avoid there.
George Street is fab for a night out...Tiger Lilly,Bar 38, Opal lounge, The Dome, Why Not and Le Monde.
The Grassmarket is good for Stag weekends too, and The Three Sisters at the Cowgate is really good and if there is any sporting event on in the afternoon, they show it on the big screens in the courtyard.
Not sure if it's your thing or not but there's an area called the pubic triangle in Edinburgh on Bread Street with Strip clubs everywhere you look! There's also a few saunas dotted about such as the Ambassador on Lothian Road and Fingerprints at Haymarket. Not that I frequent any of these places but if your man's getting married he might as well make the most of the facilities while he can!
You MUST book somewhere to eat beforehand. Went this year and the best man hadn't booked anywhere for the group to go. 14 drunken blokes looking for nosh on a sat night at 8pm. It was very tricky indeed, and we had to make several compromises. The groom went ape!
My only other suggestion would be not to look like you're a stag group, as some places won't be welcoming, though if the best man negotiates in advance with some f the big clubs and bars, often you can get guest listed or VIP entry. I went to Newcastle for an event once, and despite there being a large group, dressed as cavemen, we ended up getting VIP entry to two places, because the best man had booked ahead (by about 6 weeks) and made contacts with the venues (I think he had to commit to a certain spend though, but I can't imagine we didn't manage it, considering the size of some of the hangovers the next day!)

Enjoy!
forgot to mention, we stayed in a youth hostel made out of a church. Walking distance to the city centre, cheap bar and lodging AND when I woke in the morning there was a stream of beautiful women wrapped in a towels drifting past the door......

Thanks for all the suggestions - I had a mate's stag do in Newcastle this year (where I live), and there was a bit of trouble getting into the odd place, so maybe I'll look into booking ahead nearer the time (it's not till March). We booked a restaurant in Newcastle, which just HAS to be done, as yes, 18 blokes all bevvied up with the munchies wouldn't be good if Subway was the best we could manage!!

Plus, we're all booked up to stay at The Thistle hotel in the city centre so any tales of that place and / or nearby bars and pubs would be good too....thanks!!
