Cost of travelling from Euston to Old Street

I'm considering taking a job which would require me to travel from Euston to Old Street (and back) every weekday but need to factor in the cost of travel between the two. Can anyone tell me how much it would cost for the year, and how to get the cheapest price?

Apart from walking, which I know is free, and takes about 35 minutes.

Presumably you are arriving at Euston by train? Then the simplest and probably cheapest way is to get Zone 1 added to your rail ticket. Ask at your rail station how much this is.

Otherwise (from January) it will be �4 each way by tube or �1.50 each way using a PAYG Oyster card.

Thanks Dzug. Fortunately/Unfortunately, the job is with the National Express Group which operates the franchise into Euston, so I won't have to worry about that part of the journey, but consequently can't add the fare on, which is what I would have done otherwise. Cheers for the advice though.

Yes - there is a zone 1 and 2 travelcard

Unless you make other journeys using the travelcard it looks like the PAYG is cheaper at �15 a week.

As Dzug suggests, �15 per week, using a PAYG Oyster Card on the Northern Line, is probably your best option.

However, you can travel for just �9 per week if you take the bus. Service 205 links Euston to Old Street. If you use a PAYG Oyster Card, you'll be charged �1(single fare) during the morning peak period (0700-0929) but only 80p for your return journey.

Using either suggestion is a massive improvement on the �1,000 - �1,500 I was fearing after paying �6.20 for a Z1&2 Travelcard today.
