South Africa - recommend a book anyone?

Hi everyone
A friend of mine who was born and brought up in South Africa, but who left when she was a child, is thinking of going back there. I'd like to get her a book on South Africa for Christmas. It doesn't have to be a travel guide it could be novel or travelogue. She had a very cossetted childhood before her parents moved back to Britain as did most ex pats I suppose so a book about the ex pat living there a few decades ago would also be good. Anyhoo, if anyone can suggest anything, I'd be very grateful. Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you all.

The best book I can suggest to you are only the articles of Nelson Mandela or his biography released by some writers.
