Is a Visa required for a stay in Thailand of over 30 days, and if so how do you get one?

All UK citizens require a visa to enter Thailand, irrrespective of the length of stay. ('Visa on arrival' facilities, for stays of up to 15 days, are available for visitors from 20 nominated countries but these do not include the UK).

The validity of a tourist visa, obtained in advance, depends upon the nationality of the visitor. It will be either 30 days or 60 days. For UK passport holders, the validity is 60 days.

Visa application forms can be downloaded from here:

Postal applications are not accepted. Applicants should attend the Thai Embassy in London, between 0930 and 1230. The fee is 25. (Some travel agencies or visa agents might also be able to accept the application but they will probably charge an additional fee):

I am a Uk citizen and I go to Thailand twice a year but only stay max of 30 days and never had a Visa. My friend went over and after being in Thailand for two weeks decided to stay another two months, he was able to extend his stay by going into one of the many local visa shops and paying a small fee.
I think you've erred slightly, Chris.

For stays of up to 30 days, UK passport holders are exempt from the visa requirement.

Over 30 days - then yes, as you say, a visa is needed. The English on the link I've given is not that clear but seems to hold out the possibility of applying after arrival in Bangkok as an alternative to getting it in advance..
Apologies for my error. I read through the Thai embassy pages but missed the link provided by Dzug.

However, the answer to your actual question (which specifies a stay of over 30 days) remains unchanged. You need to apply for a visa, either in person or through a visa agency.
