Cheap ways from Peru to Belize - Mexico

The girlfriend and I are travelling independantly and are finding that to move from Peru to Mexico / Belize via flights are very expensive. Whilst Columbia isn�t anywhere as risky as the common myth we have been advised that the Northern part connecting to Central America is and we�d rather avoid putting ourselves at undue risk.

Does anybody have any ideas, know of any cheap flight routes, etc.

When I looked at moving north through latin america into central america, the ony difficult bit is the Darien Region which is the Northern area of Columbia which borders Panama. We were advised to avoid the area altogether. Two British guys were kidnapped in that area a couple of years ago.

If you can't find a decent priced flight in Columbia, you may be able to get something with LanPeru, or with one of the budget airlines in Brazil.

You may be able to get a boat from Columbia / Venezuela to Panama
