Northern Lights - Canada

We are travelling to Canada at the end of December and are visiting Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Vancouver.

Does anyone know what our chances of seeing the Northern Lights are?

I think it probably unlikely as those places are all on a more southerly latitude than London and you don't see them there. Our daughter lives in Vancouver and she doesn't see them.

You need to be in northern Canada - eg the Yukon - to stand much chance.

They are - very occasionally - seen in the UK, usually in Scotland, but sometimes further south. You probably have the same chance in southern Canada - maybe slightly more as there will be less light pollution from streetlights and houses than here.

Actually, we live in the western U.S. several hundred miles south of Calgary and often see the Aurora Borealis... it really has more to do with the activity of the Sun's flares than anything...
