do I and my husband need a visa to travel from the uk to canada. we are both british and have full passports

As long as you are just going for a holiday..no. We went last year and didn't need one as a British citizen.
We have been 3 times in the last 4 years and didn't need one.
If you're going for less than 6 months, not intending to work and don't have a criminal record then you don't need one. If any of the above is yes then you might need to contact the Canadian embassy in London just to be sure.

Canada is a lot more relaxed that the US! In fact the only thing that's handy is a pen to fill in the customs form on the plane which just checks whether you're visiting farms etc.
