Camp sites in South Africa
Hi Folks
I have a dilema I cannot decide whether to go for a hire car and hotels or do the campervan thing for a 3 week tour of South Africa in November!
Does anyone have any experience of either of these? I have priced both scenarios and the campervan option comes in at 100 more expensive and I am wondering if it is worth the extra expence for more freedom?
Also does anyone know how much campsites in South Africa charge for a campervan to stay overnight?
Thanks in advance.

It is a big NOOOOOOOOOOO to campervaning in South Africa( in my honest opinion)... we went to Cape Town which is a tourist zone from within and without Africa. The very first thing you notice is that every property has armed response security to the house. Things are locked and security is still a big issue. It is safe to go about your general business during daylight hours etc. Even in the well used eating high volume of other people out and about zones the parking is still monitored by a man who gets tipped (by you) to mind out for you and your motor. It is a fantastic place to visit but I honestly think that hire cars and hotels are the only way to go. As an example we were a bit worried when our taxi driver kept proceeding through red lights on a journey a little off the beaten track , that was until he explained we would be in danger if he did so , often gangs surround stationary vehicles and mug ( if your lucky ) the occupants.
