customs in London airports

Has anybody been stopped at customs in London upon arrival carrying more cigarettes than they are allowed to bring? If so what were the repercussions?

if you do get stopped,they usually fine you,or confiscate the whole lot,or both,depends on their mood.

I must say in my 7 years of doing so I have never been stopped at customs at all. I dont however go over my limit too excessively.

if its from a eu country you can bring back about 3000 i think.

I dont smoke but every time I go through customs there is never anyone there.

Indeed. I rarely if at all see anyone at customs so make it worth bringing a fe wmore in worth the risk.

carry 200 visible in hand luggage and put another 200 in your suitcase but dont push your luck for anymore.
Dont you know anyone that does the France run and sells fags cheaply ? i go to a boot sale most wekends and there are always cheap fags and booze for sale.
Recently I had lunch in a Stratford E. London pub and whilst eating I was offered 3 different lots of fags,booze, pirate videos and cds and packets of bacon !!!

Yep. I know stratford but not bene offered anything yet whilst there. I have to say that I wouldnt buy cigarettes off anyone as they are more than likely to be dodgy and be much worse for your health than normal cigs. For years I have carried a carton with me in hand luggage and 3 or 4 in the suitcase without problems.
