'Enjoy your flight......'
A wishful sentiment often heard at airports. I wonder
if anyone in 'goat class' ever enjoys the flight ?
For myself, I regard flying as being the epitome of
boredom. Short flights are bad enough, but 'long
haul' is excruciating.
Have you noticed... people can't wait to get onto the
plane, then can't wait to get off it. I know why.

I've flown to dozens of countries, both long-haul with full service carriers (such as Qantas) and short-haul with budget airlines (such as Ryanair). Only one flight has ever been late, and that was only by ten minutes.
Forget about the sun, the beaches, the culture and everything else. Just leave me on the aircraft, shuttling backwards and forwards for a fortnight, and I'll be in heaven ;-)

The only good thing about it is, it's a lot quicker than going by train or car. I honestly don't think anybody 'enjoys' a flight except for their first one which is an experience.
Long haul flights are excrutiating because we're confined into a seat for hours on end. I have to say I only do these flights cos I really want to visit what I'm visiting and this gives me the buzz to do it!!

I fly between 100,000 and 250,000 miles a year, and still enjoy it (you can keep the jetlag though). It is the one place left in the world I can have some peace, watch a film and read whilst having a glass of wine. On one year-long project I read Winston Churchill's 6 volumes on WW2.
The worst flights are short haul in Europe and the US, the best long haul on Singapore Airlines.
It is all in business, other than when I get upgraded. I suspect I would hate it in economy, being 6' 3.

Actually I quite enjoy flying - despite being a bit of a nervous flyer!
For me it is part of the excitement of going away - the anticipation of the outbound flight, re-reading your guide book, looking over what your plans are, where you are going to go, what you are going to see etc.. Then on the return thinking about the trip, what you'll tell friends and family etc..
I also tend to try and use it as a place to relax (though I will admit that at 5 ft 8in leg room can be a bit of a problem however I tend to get up and wander around - I do always ask for an aisle seat - which is part of keeping my nervousness at bay!), read a book, do puzzles, watch a movie if it's long haul, eat and drink whatever is on offer(or in the case of budget airlines what we have brought with us)!
However , I am not one for making small talk whether it's on planes, trains etc.. I'd rather sit in glorious anonymity! And as for the cattle market of getting onto the plane (at least where low cast airlines are concerned) don't get me started! On the whole though I rather like flying. Sorry!
