yes, take a brolly. Winters can be mild and wet in the north to cold and snowy in the south or in high country; but the weather there is as unpredictable as anywhere else these days. Footwear much as in the UK - if you need specialist stuff because you plan to shear sheep or something, it'll be available locally. You might just get some decent beach weather by Christmas.
