Is a passport needed to travel by plane from Manchester to Dublin (ireland) i have been told yes and no by different people, my dad went 10 years ago and said you do not need one, anybody else?

These days you have to have some form of identification on you even when flying to another part of this country.A passport is your best form of identity.People have been refused a flight before now.It is good security.Best to take it with you.

mine as expired and 2 of the group dont have one, it is my hen party you see :)
Check with your airline.Driving licence might do.maybe you will not need anything but too late if you are at airport and refused flight.happens often if you ever watched the easy jet programmes.
Maybe your dad didnt need a passport 10 years ago, but at that time we had not had madmen hijacking planes and flying them into skyscrapers !

BUT it MUST have a photo on it.

I would try to get a passport just to be sure.
you do need a passport when flying to ireland not so if you go by ferry
The Irish Immigration authorities will NOT require a passport.

Your airline MAY do for security reasons. They will certainly require SOME ID. Each airline has its own idea of what constitutes a valid ID. You will need to ask them.
