Phew, thats a toughie! Getting a bunk on a freighter to Europe (rarely talked about, but quite possible), and then travelling overland?

It would be a rather nice way to go if you had the time.

Me and a couple of friends contacted http://www.israelease.com and they gave us the greatest apartments selection ever. It cost us per night less than an hotel and always in the center of each town we visited. We also traveled in the high season and a reasonable accommodations were so hard to find. I'm so glad it turned that way.
