Eden project / Helligan

I'm looking to book a holiday for next year which will incorporate a trip to both the above gardens.

But as we have kids, we will be staying at a Haven holidays park and the two i was thinking of were either Exmouth or Newquay.

Bearing in mind that i'll be coming from Brighton, there's a fair amount of driving for poor ol' me. Exmouth sounds the best holiday park but is further away from Eden etc.

So it's really about approximate times to get from Exmouth to Eden / Helligan for a family of 4 in my little Rover just taking it easy.

Also, how much further is Newquay from Burnham on sea. We went there last year and it only took 3 hours to get there.

There are quite a few web sites that do route planning for you.

You can put in starting and ending details (postcode, town etc)

It will tell you how many miles, and approximate travel time

A quick look on AA route planner shows:

Exmouth to Eden - 87 miles and 2 hours 18 minutes

Newquay to Eden - 18 miles and 41 minutes.

So pretty easy decision really. Spending over 4 and a half hours getting from Exmouth to Eden on a sunny day with kids in the car does not sound much like fun to me.

Couple of suggestions.

Why not stay at Exmouth if it is a nicer camp. BUT

On the way there, or on the way back, add an extra couple of nights in a B&B near the Eden Project and Heligan.

Eden project and Heligan are very close together and you could stay at St Austell or somewhere like that.

That way you could do both places in the one trip AND still get your holiday in Exmouth.

I have been to both Eden and Heligan, and I am not sure when your holiday is next year but if it is in the summer (July / August) Eden can get VERY busy and is rather uncomfortable.

Why not consider going to Eden / Heligan at some other time of the year when there are school holidays but it is not so busy.

I realise Brighton is quite drive, but a weeks holiday in that area during Easter or other half term would be more pleasant than fighting it out with the thousands of other visitors in July or August.

Thanks for the help guys....nothing's concrete yet and we're open to suggestions. Helligan and Eden are on the "must see before i die" list (even though i'm only 40 !!!).

When ever we go, it'll be off peak. A holiday in summer holidays will cost me �550 where as a holiday in late sept will cost �200 !!!

There is a nice Haven holiday in Newquay so i may stay there....i've been to Newquay several times and loved it.
