I was best man for my friend two years ago at a wedding held at the Church in Gretna and then the reception at The Solway Lodge. We also had a meal there the night before - the whole wedding party the bar meals were quite good - but took an hour and a half to be brought to the tables.
I'd give it in total about 5/10 - so did my friend, who was the groom.
During the reception, which was held in the main restaurant area, the staff showed diners into the restaurant to tables that were only screened off with portable screens - which we thought was very rude and just wrong. About 50% of the staff were quite abrupt, curt and didn't give the opinion they were at all bothered that it was someones special day. The service and wine package (about 1/2 glass each) was dreary and there was no give and take. I asked for some more wine three times and in the end had to go and get some myself from the bar, two rooms away.
We were ushered out of the room - not long after the speeches with nowhere to go (the evening reception was back at the bride and grooms hotel) and the bar area was not made available to us.
The food wasn't too bad - it was a full sit down meal - hot and tasty but there wasn't much of an atmosphere.
Over all between the wedding party for the two days there was a lot of money being spent and no appreciation that that was the case - it was a little kind of conveyor belt - just another wedding and wheel in the next lot situation.
The wedding was great at the Church it was the reception that marred the day a little.
