Oslo V's Salzburg

I'm taking my mum away for her birthday and I have got a price for both of these places. The Oslo holiday is cheaper than the Salzburg but i'm worried it will be very expensive when we get there.
Has anyone been to both of them or either and tell me a bit about each city.

I've been to Salzburg and thought it was a lovely austrian town. As with all of Austria it's clean. Went on a horse pulled cab for sightseeing, ate delicious apfelstrudel, listened to the Vienna waltzes and saw A sound of music!!

oslo is a fabulous city break but can be a bit expensive, particularly on alcohol. although that said there are so many museums etc that you'd never be bored. also it is a fairly small city so find a central hotel and you'll be able to walk a lot of it.
