The airport's website states that the journey takes 'nearly half an hour' and will cost you around 30. (About 20): http://www.helsinki-vantaa.fi/bytaxi
I've just done that journey. There is local bus or you can catch the finnair bus which costs a little more but doesn't stop everywhere and is, therefore quicker. It takes about 30 minutes for the finnair bus, same for the taxi.
Thanks both. Our problem is that we are planning to leave Rovaniemi in the morning to return to Helsinki by train and
have to catch the plane at tea time so really pushing it for time and wondered if we would make it or will have to get the overnight train instead.
If you catch the overnight train that would give you some time in Helsinki. Better that than miss the flight. I had a near miss when I went to the wrong terminal in Tallinn for the ferry back to Helsinki and missed it. Fortunately the sea was calm and we could get the hydrofoil, which doesn't run in rough seas, but it was a sweaty moment.
If you do decide to go in the morning I don't expect you'll have a problem finding a taxi. Have fun.
Hi
I live in Finland
The others are just about right -but the buses and taxis have a preferential route in Helsinki and therefore are not likely to be delayed -plus the trains are absolutely on time even in the deepest snow ( or with the wrong kind of leaves on the track! !)so if your times seem reasonable you will make it but the overnight is a good idea simply because the journey is long and it is a good chance to rest and enjoy the next day
Thanks - have just found out that if we get off the train at Tikkurila the journey is only 15 minutes and would give us nearly two hours before the flight, so we will take a chance on that and see some of the countryside, rather than the overnight train as we are not really into doing the tourist thing in Helsinki.
You have all been very helpful, what a wonderful thing Answerbank is!
