San Diego to Tjuana
I will be getting a bus across the border for a short 4 hour trip. Is my British passport ok? do I need a tourist card visa or anything else. I am travelling with a company called coach America they say contact the embassy. I looked but can't find any details.

No problems then. But of course they're now so panicky about security, and also getting really stroppy about illegal Latino immigrants, that they may well have cracked down further. Beats me why the coach company can't tell you, but it is worth trying to find out.
...which you are doing, and I realise I haven't been any help at all. Sorry.

Checked a bit further. You need a 'blue tourist card' which you will get given to fill in on arrival.
It's <possible> that if you are there on such a short visit and are on a US bus they won't bother with it, but in either event there's nothing for you to do in advance. Just enjoy.
One tip - do NOT give up your US visa waiver stub when you go to Mexico. Fortunately it's difficult to do so when entering Mexico by land, but you will need it to get back to the US.

If I recall correctly, the tourist stamp is only required for stays of longer than 72 hours, otherwise your UK passport is fine and nothing further is required. You'll get a few odd looks when going back into the US, as the border there is only used to seeing yankees going home, but there should be no problems.
There is a huge drop in standards of safety, sanitation and wealth once the border is crossed, its not like Europe and travellers should beware of this.
