Can anyone tell me why in Glasgow Central Station there are platforms 1 through to 15 and then an extra platform number 11a that sits outside the station. It is something that has always puzzled me as I draw in to the station every morning. Does it serve a purpose as Ive never seen a train on it I dont think? Has it got something to do with freight trains? or has it got a magical Harry Potter explanation??

Run into the wall and see what happens!
Is it not if there are more than one train on the platform? I'm sure I've caught the Newton train from that platform. Then from Newton you can get a connection to BLANTYRE or other interesting places!
who cares about centrals platforms ! queen st runs the show !!!!

You can get two full trains on the one platform i.e platform 11, but there is still an additional platform 11a that is situated outside the main station! WHY!!!! Queen street, with it's many barriers doesn't even come close to central (cause i cant get home from queen street) Skelly - can you get a train from Blantyre to Thornliebank at night say after an evening out or something ;o)
