Single Travellers - not catered for

I have always gone on holiday alone and have nearly always had to pay a supplement. Matters came to a pass when i found my dream holiday , found that i could just about afford it if i saved for 18 months then found the usual small print <BASED ON TWO PEOPLE SHARING>!.
So thats that out of the window.

Things will not change unless pressure is put on hoteliers etc to accomadate single travellers at reasonable rates and stop treating them like inconveniences. So , ( at last ) the question is - Is there a pressure group that i can join to lobby for the rights of people travelling alone?

I dont think it right but in UK they get away with it.Try the US for a holiday there is something there for everyone, Wyoming is just lovely , you dont have to pick the usual destinations.
What I am getting at is that the US charge per room not per person at their hotels and you can then book a single seat on any flight.

I think you will find that all over the world hotels charge per room not per person but package holiday companies base their prices on 2 people travelling together and sharing that room.

So for example Dee Sa for a USA room at say �50 per night + flight @ �450 when booked from a UK package company becomes �25 per night + flight per person based on 2 people. Therefore if you travel alone you have to pay the full �50 cost of the room. It is not really a supplement it is just that the true room price has been split.over 2 people.

They could offer packages based on 1 person price and then say that if 2 people travel together & share a room it will be �25 less per person per night - but as the majority of people travel with a partner or friend, and as most hotels have 95% double rooms (some even have 100% with no single rooms) it makes sense to sell packages the way they do.

The problem is that so many hotels do not have single rooms - especially in the US. I think you miss the point Dee Sa. If I book a hotel room in the US -on my own - it will cost me �50. If I book that same room together with a friend or husband it will cost �50 (ie �25 each) If 3 of us book the room it will cost �50 (less that �17 each) It is just as expensive for the single traveller doing it that way as it is getting a package & paying the supplement!!!!!
