Taking body spray and antiperspirants abroad

Hi!
We are flying for the first time (in quite a few years) next Feb and are a tad confused about the liquids allowence.
I know you can have a max of 100mls of clear liquids.
Can you take body spray and antiperspirant? Do these have to be in your hand baggage? I can't seem to find any info on the website and the holiday has all been arranged for us as a surprise through friends using their holiday home so we aren't going through a holiday agent like Thomas Cook etc.. I'm afraid this is all a bit new and alien to us.
Any advice or tips greatfully received :o)

You're allowed to take aerosol products, such as antiperspirants, in your in hold baggage, without restriction. Modern aerosols containers are designed to withstand the pressure differences associated with being placed in a total vacuum, so they shouldn't burst due to the low pressure in an aircraft hold. (However, some people don't like to to put aerosols in their hold baggage in case the container is faulty. If it is, and it bursts, it won't endanger the aircraft but it will make a mess of the items in your bag).

The regulations on cabin baggage don't just refer to 'clear liquids' (as stated in your question). They include all liquids and gels, such as toothpaste, hair gel and suntan lotion. You're allowed to take up to a maximum of 100ml in any one container of liquid/gel but all of the containers must fit into a single clear plastic bag (approx 20cm x 20cm), which must be handed to security staff separately from your single item of hand baggage. (There must be space inside that item of hand luggage to accommodate the liquids bag after it's been checked).

The security rules, on cabin baggage, are the same for all flights departing from any EU airport (and also from a few other countries). They can be viewed here:

The general rules for what you can, and can't, take in the hold or in the cabin are determined by IATA, so it doesn't really matter which airline's website you look at. The rules will be similar. For Ryanair's rules on cabin baggage, see here:

You can buy suitable plastic bags, for the liquids in your cabin baggage, from Tesco, where they're described as 'Resealable food bags - Small' and sold in packs of 25.

(PS: The easiest thing to do is simply to take roll-on antiperspirants and pack them in your hold baggage. Most aerosols contain around 200ml or 300ml of liquid, so they're automatically banned from cabin baggage).

I went to Rome in June and areosols wasn't allowed in our hand luggage...I saw people being made to throw them away. Although perhaps it was because it was over the 100mls....

Off to Portugal would you believe! We are so fortunate to have such good friends to surprise us like this! The kids are so excited as they have never been on holiday before and to be going abroad is mega exciting for them (and us!)
I just don't want something to go wrong so want to try to get my head around everything now so I am prepared! Plus I worry wayyyyyyy too much!!

ps I would imagine that if you if googled the carrier you're flying with it will have what you can take in hand luggage on their website. Also it can sometimes alter so i'd double check closer to the time.

this last week we flew with My Travel and we made sure everything was in the hold luggage that might not be allowed, the only thing that had to be put into a clear plastic bag, (there were plenty on tables near the security scanners) was my daughters cigarette lighter, and it had to go thru the scanner thing on its own in the bag.

I went through Stansted a couple of weeks ago and a notice said they'd stopped handing out plastic bags, so it might pay to check in advance.

I must admit I didn't realise until I posted here about this that they were still allowed in your suitcase! I was reading it that you were allowed a max of 100mls in your hand luggage or nothing!

This would be less confusing for me if we did this more often! no such luck unfortunatley lol
