Ryanair female staff's hairstyles

How come about 95% of Ryanair's female ground and cabin crew wear their hair in a bun? Are these buns real or do they buy them and pin them on?

They're probably real! My mum works for BA and when she first started (9 years ago) they were even told what shades of lipstick they could wear to work, and what shades of nail varnish and stuff, so it's probably a regulation thing. Wouldn't look very smart with hair flopping about the place would it??

Indeed, Becks, but why not pony-tails, plaits or even short hair? Do Ryanair not employ women if their hair is not long enough to go up into a bun? The bun is ubiquitous. It's even the same bun - like a ring doughnut. Is there a copyright on it? Are you issued with one on Day 1?

lol! I don't know Willow, my friend works for BMI so i will ask if she knows of a standard issue bun handed out to her Ryanair counterparts. To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if if was a standard hair do, ponytails are not very professional, altho couldn't see a problem with plaits... hmmm, you've got me intrigued now!! will find out more...

It's a combination of smart appearence and safety. Long hair looks less 'individual' tied up, hence the ubiquitous bun approach, which doesn't detract from the uniform. In an emergency, any trailing hair - ponytail, plaits etc, could be caught in doors, by passengers, and so on, causing a safety hazard, a bun present no such problems, so that's why most air crew with long hair wear them.
