getting to thailand

i want to go to phuket thailand for 5 weeks starting end of april beginning of march with my 4 yr old son..... we been 3 times before (only once since he was 3) when he was under 3 it was soo cheap but now like last time we went i have to buy a seat for him and it costs more than i want to spend..... does anyone know of a cheap way to get there.... i dont care how many stops and stay overs i just need to do it on a budget..... (dont want to go through anywhere too dangerous though being a mum with a 4yr old) but any idea's greatly apreciated.
