I would assume most folk would opt for the meals, especially if its a package deal kinda thing, but Ive never ever been able to tell if 'everyone' on the plane is having the meal, how do you know this pete?
Question Author
just by generally looking arround while the stewards/stewardesses serve the meals, not that I'm being nosey, if you know what I mean.
I have rarely had to opt in/out for meals, I kinda thought it came along with the booking but then Ive never (until recently) just booked a flight on its own, its normally a holiday 'deal' with flight, accommodation etc all thrown in eg. Airtours kinda thing

Not that the food is worth paying for eh!
We went recently and didn`t pay for a meal so didn`t get one. Being curious I wondered how the staff coped with some having and some not. It proved to be very simple, all the people who had meals were sat at the front of the plane so I suppose there are two allocations of seats.
I went to Israel two years ago on an El Al flight, the options were:
Kosher
Non Kosher
Sorry, I'm being presumptuous here: are you referring to charter flights and/or discount airlines? If you travel with one of the majors, i.e., BA, Malev, etc., the meal service is complimentary. However, there are carriers that do charge for meal service, such as Iberia. I'm not sure of your destination. But I would suggest that some of the payable meals are seldom true value-for-money. If your flight is of a short distance, you might prefer to save your money to apply at your ultimate destination. And instead, on your flight, take a small packet of crackers or crisps.

Bon Appetite and Bon Voyage!
i flew a few times and didnt book meals because my daughter was only a babe and sat on my lap. as there was noone else travelling with us it was easier to take sandwiches and snacks. To answer the question, lol, when i flew with thomsons they sat us at the back of the plane if we hadnt booked a meal and we werent offered one. I flew with someone else and was offered a meal, i was honest and said I hadnt paid for one, they gave it me anyway because they had extra and another flight I was on told me I could buy one for 6

Hmm, that's interesting, I was of the same opinion as birdlegs, and wondered how they managed to sort out the none meals and those that wanted them as they never seemed to have a list with them when they produced the meals, It seems from the answers given that passengers not wanting meals are put to the back of the aircraft, but then I think it would confuse the issue if I was traveling with my wife, and we were sat together and I wanted a meal and she didn't, any way I'm off to gran canaria in November, and I will take particular notice, (I have paid for two meals by the way) lol, surely there must be a thomsons or thomas cook stewardess on a/b that can solve this for me,
phone them n ask them pete, then u wont be confusedpete
Question Author
and if thats the case the meals and none meals must be sorted at airport check in, (BRILLIANT)

yeah, I know weeal, think I'll change my name cos everybody thinks I'm a bit nutty,
Any flight i've been on, the meal has been included in the price of the flight, but i suppose it depends on the airlines
