Chocolates USA and Asutralia

Hi,

i am travelling from the Uk to New York then to LA then onto Australia. I am wanting to bring some English chocolates for my cousin in Australia and i am wanting to know will I be OK to bring them into the USA first?? I also want to pack some crispbreads that i have for my diet will I be allowed to bring them from the UK to the USA???

Yes you're fine with both of those products.

It is especially meats that you have to be careful with... you can't even take meat stock-cubes into the US.

When you get to Oz I'd just mention to someone you've got them - I did the same with chocolates and crispbread and they let me through, but it says you have to declare ALL food items so to be safe I would tell customs you have them (rather than be caught with them without telling anyone!).

Indeed - Last year, we took some Easter Eggs all the way from the UK to Malaysia (via the US and Australia) - no probs whatsoever

Agreed, as long as you tell them in advance. I gather you're taking the Air New Zealand flight. Are you stopping over in LA enroute, or just transiting? If just transit, you do not need to complete the typical US Customs declaration form at all. That makes the process a bit easier.

You are not supposed to take any foodstuff at all into Australia. There are big bins as you get off the plane where you are meant to throw it away. That said - if you declare it you should be OK - I have taken in a Christmas Pudding before.....but if you don't declare it they have 'sniffer dogs' specially trained to smell food. If the dog sits down beside your luggage then beware........

Hi, Yeah Ive been told I need to declare it ive had an email from the australian quarantine and inspection service and they had emailed me to say I can take the boxes of chocolates in as they are still sealed but yes I need to declare them and then they are inspected once I get my case. Im going to take the email with me also for back up if I need it!!!

What a horrible and impolite reply JonnoGenie!!!!!!!! i thought people on THIS site where polite maybe most are but NOT you. Reason I asked this question as you asked was I HADNT found out till after I posted the question. I did not just sit back and wait till someone asnwered I thought this was a nice and friendly site to ask my question but ALSO I carried on searching the internet.
