No point in taking US dollars unless you already have them - you'll pay two lots of commission that way, once to change into $$ and again to change to dirham.
Oh trust me they will accept any kind of money in Morocco, they are that desperate! I have been there a few times...they learn how to speak your lingo from a young age. They are keen to fleece tourists!
The official currency in Morocco is the Dirham (DH), divided into 100 centimes. At the moment, the Dirham has the following exchange rate: 1 dirham = 0,10 Euro
1 Euro = 10,10 dirhams. Changing money:
Don't forget the Dirham can't be either imported or exported - you can only buy and sell it within Morocco, so get rid of all your change before you leave!

Agree with CroosG. You can only get your Dirhams once you have arrived in Morocco, plenty of ATMs, and I think its a fixed conversion rate. Where will you be staying?
Don't know about Marrakech but I've been to Turkey a few times. When paying for items such as having a suit made at a tailor I am usually asked to pay in Sterling (I think thats what you mean when you say "Great British Pounds"). The locals consider that the Turkish Lira isn't worth the paper it's printed on with the raging inflation there.

I've seen French and German people paying for goods in Euro's as well. Try telephoning or emailing your national embassy in Marrakech for advice.

Thanks everyone. I'll take some sterling & my debit card. Never realised there would be plenty of ATM's. Makes life much easier. Stopping in a riad in the centre of Marrakech, for the person who asked.
