3* hotels or hostels in La Rambla

Can anyone recommend a nice hostel or hotel with ensuite in or near Las Ramblas, Barcelona as although I've googled I've only come up with quite pricey ones:

My sister & I stayed in the 'Rivoli Ramblas' Hotel just before Christmas. It's billed as 4 star but more like 3 star - very comfortable though and has en suite bathroom. Excellent location on Las Ramblas.

We got a great deal through lastminute.com, so was probably cheaper. Depends when you're going but very quiet there at the moment, so may be able to negotiate a deal?

My sister has stayed at the Gaudi (by the bottom 'Ramblas' on the left) and said it was very nice. I am going in May and on the Cruise Critic website the Hotel Continental Palacete
http://www.hotelcontinental.com/ was recommended, so we are trying that (its just of Placa de Catalunya). If you try to internet book these hotels, they will come up as unavailable (for some reason you can only book about 3 months ahead). If so, e mail the hotel direct for a quote.

If you go just off the Ramblas into the bario Gotico area there are a few smaller, quite basic but acceptable places - I have booked these thru http://www.octupustravel.com
