Why are short breaks in Jan so expensive? All i want is to go away to dorset for three nights to a s/c cottage in 2 weeks time. I have searched and searched for a reasonable priced cottage (complicated by the fact we want to take 2 dogs) Why do most people charge 4/5ths of the weekly rate to have it for 3 nights? It just seems very greedy to me ...i'll only use 3/7ths of the fuel, 3/7ths of the wear and tear. Ok so they have to clean it as much at begining and end but that'll be 1 hours work! Why are they so expensive?

probably because it's most convenient to let it out a week at a time. If you take it for 3 nights in the middle of the week it becomes virtually impossible to let it out for the other 4. Even so, I would have thought at this time of the year they'd count themselves lucky to get anything at all.
