How does the tram system work in central Manchester? Do I hop on only at the front and pay the driver then or do I hop on anywhere and then proceed to pay the driver or do I pay using a machine once inside?

oh ok thanks. Yes it's the hotel by the Trafford, how will I know how much it costs then? It's not like London buses that have a set fare regardless of where you're going, is it?
at the machine there are little buttons with the names of the stop you want to go to and the price will come up - it's quite simple to use once your in front of one!!

Tichfield: According to the link you have posted here the single journey costs 2 pounds from Piccadilly to Old Trafford. Assuming I have got the stations right.
FRor that hotel you need to catch any tram that has Eccles as its final destination. The Hotel is opposite the Exchange Quay Metro (7th stop from Piccadilly Station).

The cost seems to be 1.90 for an off-peak (after 9:30am) single ticket.

Thanks a lot Tichfield. Now I know exactly when to get off ;-)
