Las/Los Vegas

Whilst most people say 'Las' Vegas, I have many time heard it pronounced 'Los' and indeed have seen it written that way in some American periodicals.

Anyone know why this is and which is correct?

Las Vegas means the meadows, or lowlands, in spanish.

Las is correct - it's a feminine noun.

Los is either a typo or ignorance
