You'll have to find out where the nearest passport office is and physically go there and wait in line, possibly for hours (sorry) and then they give you the passport the same day. Don't know where you are in the country but I believe that in the south where I am it's either Newport or London. Look up Passport Offices on the net and see what you find.
It is Peterborough
Stop fannying around on here and go direct to your passport office, the one in London is pretty good these days, I got a lost passport replaced in a morning, I think it helps if you know the number of the lost/destroyed passport but is not crucial
I suggest you take loads of ID type things with you. Birth cert, driving licence, utility bills, credit card statements etc. Anything which may help to prove who you are. Good luck.
Also if you have any bits of the old passport, no matter how damaged, take them as well.
Yes indeed, they can get very suspicious about what happened to the old one.
Back in the 70's I spent a summer in Amsterdam and genuinely lost my passport. When I breezed into the consulate a few days later to get a new one, I was horrified to be accused in no uncertain terms of selling my passport. I was 'interrogated' for about a morning and left the building without the replacement I had been depending on to travel forth with my mates. I rang home and my folks made some howling noises to the powers that be and I got a new one afew days later. I later found out that had I sold it as accused I could have got a hundred quid for it. No wonder when a long haired, skint, half stoned and reeking of patchouli scruff, turned up they got suspicious.
They will not even see you unless you have phoned to make an appointment (see their website). Then there is no guarantee that you will get the passport the same day and it will cost you!
Forgot to say don't forget the photos.
