If you fly, the airline will require you to produce photo identity on check-in. A passport is a good way to do this.

i have a feeling (jenstar) that kez is talking about Birmingham (alabama) to scotland (novia scotia) where i believe the former is in the USA and the latter in Canada. Birmingham to Scotland in the UK simply requires a raincoat :-)
