I need help settling an argument with my friend.

How do you pronounce Ibiza (we English, I mean, not the Spaniards)?
Is it Eye- Bee- Tha or I (as in ink)- beez - a (as in cat) ?

Many thanks netibiza....pronounced net eb ee tha!!! :)
At least I was nearest to the correct proununciation!! We're off there later this year hopefully!
Can't argue with netibiza, but I always thought it was 'eeveetha' (Spanish 'b's pronounced as 'v', and vice versa)??
Based on the normal collection of moronic tourists that go there every year, I'd guess the normal way of saying it is eye-beef-er
yes delboy we pronounce it Ev e sa - (Eivissa) the local way but linlam wanted the English way
Linlam where abouts are you staying??
Oh and delboy it is only with incorrect Spanish that the B becomes a V - although it happens a lot in Sevilla!!

netibiza, my friends family live close to somewhere, that she says is a bit remote, but beautiful, called San Juan.
Oh love it - very small and quaint - but nothing to do there, only one bar and 2 cafes. Lots of banks. Really laid back and 70's feel. Enjoy!!
I'm afraid you are all wrong. Z in the English language is not* pronounced 'th'. The correct pronounciation for Ibiza (in English) is I-beez-a.

For some reason this fad of trying to pronounce Ibiza using its Spanish pronounciation has found its way into British popular culture.

How many people do you hear say 'Paris' by its French pronounciation 'Par-ee'? None. Not unless they are speaking French, or they are French citizens.

So why do it just for Ibiza? I strongly suggest people consider these points.
