You don't need a passport for Northern Ireland and you should be ok for the Republic as long as you have other photo identity with you.

Why don't you renew your passport when you get back from Ireland? You can renew at any time, but if you do so with 9 months or less left on your passport they renew your passport and credit you with the remaining months of your old one.
