depends on many things - when did it happen, how old was he, what was the outcome of the case if any, etc. Broadly, he might not get a visa is he applied for one, but the US authorities won't know about it, so he could just fill out the visa waiver form they hand out on flights and forget about the sweets affair as he ticks the boxes for No.

You dont say how old your son is, but as its a very minor offence, and as long as he does not have a long criminal history he should be fine.
