Hotels in Venice and Buenas Aires

My partner has booked a cruise for us starting in Buenas Aires and finishing in Venice. We are to have two nights both pre and post cruise in these two cities. Can anyone advise us of hotels conveniently placed for the cruise terminals especially in Venice where we have been warned of the high cost fo transfers from the terminal to some areas of Venice. We want nice hotels but not veyr expensive ones. Night life is unimportant to us (both pensioners!) but we do like to be able to get out and about to explore new palces Thanks a lot Ann
